The Oakland Museum of California

Yesterday morning, Hi Fructose attended the private press preview for the newly remodeled and renovated Oakland Museum of California. The OMCA is currently in high gear, preparing for their ambitious grand re-introduction to the East Bay community. A 31-hour continuous event will kick off the museum's opening with musical performances and various entertainment, we of course are rather looking forward to skater/poet/artist Tommy Guerrero's perfomance this Saturday, May 1st at 11pm. In addition to the festivities, there is, of course, the art. As you can see pictured above, Barry McGee is currently finishing up a mural (more on that later!) while deeper in the museum's galleries lies some nice pieces by the Date Farmers, Haight-Ashbury legend Stanley Mouse, Black Panther activist/artist Emory Douglas, and a couple others, all of which you can preview ahead of time here.
