Clowns!opens 7 p.m., November 15th at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City and features an extraordinary line up of artists re-interpreting the classic clown portrait. Artists include Buff Monster, Joe Ledbetter, Chet Zar, Audrey Kawasaki, Travis Louie, Alex Pardee, Chet Zar, Gary Baseman and many more.
For this special exhibition, Corey Helford Gallery also partnered with London’s StolenSpace Gallery to feature works by some of England’s most sought-after new artists: D*Face, Chloe Early, Word To Mother, and Will Barras.
“The theme is our second experiment in crossing over our genre with Americana – the first being the Paint-by-Numbers Charity event.Clown art was all the rage as a motif in the 50’s and early 60’s and merging that history with this art movement seemed like an interesting juxtaposition. Also, clowns seem to appear in a lot of the work of the artists we all know and that fascination has a history in American & European art.”- Jan Corey
